Tea Tasting Event

We offer tea-tasting events from time to time. In each 1.5 hour session, different types of tea will be brewed and consumed. The traditional Kung Fu Tea Ceremony will be demonstrated by using teawares such as clay teapots, aroma and drinking cups and other tea utensils ( scoop, pick, spatula and pincers ). Tips on how to brew each type of tea will be discussed.

Our last event was held on weekend afternoons from November of 2005 to January of 2006. In our next round of tea tasting event, we will expand the subject to include how to use Gaiwan (large cup with a lid) to brew tea and possibly brewing your own tea with a teapot during the session. If you are interested in our future tea-tasting events, you may sign up today and we will notify you either by E-mail or by phone when the exact dates are set.

To reserve a spot or related inquiries, please call 718-353-5632 or e-mail us at services@luhyutea.com.

CHINESE TEA CEREMONY COURSE
Starting in October 2006, Luh Yu Tea Emporium will offer Chinese tea ceremony classes to anyone who is interested in learning about the fundamentals of Chinese tea. The class will be held from 2PM-5PM on two consecutive Saturdays or two consecutive Sundays. Two sessions constitute one full course. In the first meeting, participants will learn the basic six categories of Chinese tea as well as their individual properties and brewing tips. Then there will be a tea tasting session near the end of the first meeting. In the second meeting, each participant will learn the Kung-Fu style (clay teapot) of tea making as well as the Gaiwan (lidded cup) style and become acquainted with basic tea making tools. Everyone will have a chance in practicing tea brewing. Tea treats and snacks will be provided for both classes. The fee for this course is $50 with all materials included. In addition, each participant will receive a 4-piece Kung-Fu tea ceremony set (tea pick, tea scoop, tea spatula and tea pincers) which will be used during class.

Please be aware of the fact that we will be handling hot water kettles in class and therefore, we strongly discourage anyone who is under 18 years old or who cannot handle hot clayware to take this class. Because the class size is extremely small, pre-class registration is required and tuition must be paid in full.
